We are delighted to bring you our Nova Scotia Haskap Juice. Native to Japan, the revered Haskap berry is known as “nature’s little present on the end of the branch”. It boasts double the antioxidant content of a wild blueberry and we squeeze 187 of them into every bottle.

Some liken the flavour to blackcurrant with tones of cranberry. Not overly sweet, this juice is incredibly refreshing with a zing that is like nothing else on the market.

Our award-winning juice is unique with its rich flavor and deep red colour. Drink it straight as a refreshing morning shot, over ice as a tall drink or use as a colorful component for desserts, cocktails and coulis. Also makes an excellent red wine substitute.

This juice is the perfect gift; a non-alcoholic wine for the designated driver, a fantastic cocktail mixer if you are feeling adventurous, and a healthy ingredient for those morning-after smoothies to help you recover from your excesses!

I recently tasted Haskapa at the TIANS conference and Taste of Nova Scotia was kind enough to send me home with one bottle…It’s addictive and I want to buy more! Christina M

Reasons to be cheerful, 2014 edition: the world remains full of terrific natural wonders; even better, some people have the bottle to bring them to our attention. The Nova Scotia-based company Haskapa offers juice and jams made from “the healthiest and tastiest berry grown in Canada”, an indigo-coloured superfruit long prized in its native Japan. The name Haskapa comes from the Ainu word ‘Hasukappu’ meaning ‘little presents on the end of the branch’ and in fact these berries pack a distinctive punch; their flavour is something like blueberry crossed with blackcurrant, with a touch of elderberry (or perhaps pomegranate). What’s surprising is their long finish on the palate; like the grape, the haskap berry is high in tannins, which gives the juice a wine-like mouthfeel. Haskapa’s product was named best newcomer at the World Juice Awards in Cologne, last October, and it’s easy to see why: this is a vibrant, tangy drink with a lot of natural character, ultra-healthy and packed full of antioxidants. It’s also a fine mixer (try a Haskapa Cosmo or Margarita). Looking for a colourful picker-upper to start the new year? Make a splash with this juice.

Surprisingly, or not so surprisingly, it was good. We started with a toast and a cheers, as we raised our glass filled with Haskap juice. As you can see, it’s very dark in colour and has the same potency as you’d expect. But, to our better judgement, was not bitter. As we each discussed the tastes and scents of the juice, we nibbled on some dried haskap berries. While they appear dark in colour like currents (or blueberries), they have a very sweet taste to them, one that would actually be quite pleasant in your morning oatmeal. One thing that surprised us with the dried haskap, was how ‘un-dry’ they were. In fact, they were quite juicy. They were not too dehydrated like some people claim of goji berries. As we sat there discussing them, we couldn’t believe how easy they were to snack on. We must have demolished an entire bag in minutes. Next, our third and final tasting (the item we used the forks for) was the haskap jamu. Within seconds of trying the jamu, staff members were shouting out what they’d use it for. And no wonder, it was delicious. Sweet, smooth, and clearly, they would make the perfect addition to anything you have the imagination for.
